Raised by a single mother, Wendy began working after school at age 14 to help support her mom and three siblings. By 19, she was on her way to becoming a single mother, working two jobs just to make ends meet. Wendy’s story shows girls in Texas and across the country that they can grow up to be a leader in their community and state to be a fierce voice for women and their families. |

In June 2013, Wendy waged an 11-hour filibuster in order to stop SB 5, an egregious anti-choice bill being considered by the Texas Senate. The bill eventually passed in special session, but her actions brought attention to the drastic measures Texas legislators are taking to restrict choice. |
