As a wife and mother, Sharon understands the challenges California families are facing in today’s difficult economy. As a teacher, she is passionate about ensuring that all Californians have access to a quality education.  And as a former Councilwoman and Mayor, she has built a reputation for being a bipartisan problem-solver. In addition, Sharon has long been a vocal proponent for reproductive health choices.

State Assembly – California’s 65th District – Incumbent. After Sharon pulled off an impressive upset for this seat in 2012, the district has been heavily targeted by the state GOP.

As a schoolteacher in Fullerton for 27 years and a product of the district’s public school system, she has brought a passion for education and public service to the Assembly.

She spent most of her career as an elementary school teacher before being elected to the California State Assembly in 2012. WCF endorsed Sharon in that race.

Prior to her election to the Legislature, she was elected to the Fullerton City Council in November 2004, where she was selected by her peers in 2007 to serve as mayor for two terms.

Sharon has been endorsed by the American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees – CA, the California Federation of Teachers, the California Labor Federation, Hispanas Organized for Political Equality Political Action Committee (HOPE-PAC), NARAL, the National Organization for Women CA, the National Union of Healthcare Workers, and the National Women's Political Caucus.
