Maura was previously the Chief of the Civil Rights and Public Protection Bureaus of the Massachusetts Attorney General's office.

For seven years, she led a team of 250 lawyers on nationally significant cases, including the first successful challenge to the Defense of Marriage Act.

Maura joined the Attorney General’s Office in 2007 after serving as a litigator in one of Boston’s most prominent law firms, WilmerHale, and as a Special Assistant District Attorney in Middlesex County.
