As a transgender woman of color, Hina represents one of the most discriminated against and stigmatized communities in America. Her election would send a powerful signal about the inclusion of trans women and women of color in politics and society.

Office of Hawaiian Affairs Trustee At Large – Statewide – Open Seat. In addition to the two incumbent trustees who are up for reelection, Hina will face 14 opponents in the general election.

Hina is a K-12 teacher at the Halau Lokahi Public Charter School. She has also taught in adult education and incarcerated person’s education settings.

Additionally, she continues to serve on the Oʻahu Island Burial Council and have been a very effective community advocate for ancestral burial issues for the last 6 years.

She has taught the language, dances, chants, history, and philosophy of the Hawaiian people to both native members, as well as the larger local Hawaiian population.

Hina is also a former case manager for the area HIV/STD prevention and education.
