Gayle’s grandfather fled from Eastern Europe to Canada for a life of safety and religious freedom. Her parents moved from Montreal to Atlanta when she was only 7 years old. Even though she could not read or write English at the time, she learned quickly, began volunteering in her community, starting her life’s work as a public servant.

State Senate – Rhode Island’s 3rd District – Incumbent.

As a State Senator, Gayle was instrumental in the effort to introduce paid parental leave parity legislation in the early 2000s and temporary caregiver insurance legislation in 2012.

Gayle has also been a lead force in wins related to expanding child care subsidies for low income families; allowing women to fill all 365 days of birth control at once; a bill that licenses lactation consultants; and working on many improvements to our health care system.

As Strategic Initiatives Officer for Women’s Fund of Rhode Island, Gayle has dedicated her work to ending gender bias and inequality in the state.
