Low is the New High
Right now, 18.9% of Congress is made up of women, but according to new research, that number could reach 20% this year! The highest ever, but still way too low.
Baby Gap
According to new research, having a child is a bad career move because mothers are paid less than their male colleagues with the same qualifications. Uh, I feel like doing your job well should be enough to get equal pay, but maybe I’m just being greedy.
Birth Patrol
A man is suing the Obama Administration because his two college-age daughters can access birth control. Oh well, I can’t imagine the daughters are upset by his actions, since a woman’s reproductive decisions should DEFINITELY ALWAYS be left in the hands of her father.
Be A Good Sport
Fact: Women hold more jobs in sports media than ever before and outnumber men in journalism classes. Fact: Men still dominate the field by contributing 65% to evening sports broadcasts. Fact: These facts are not adding up.
Fox’s Faux Pas
Women are into fashion, not politics. Well, that’s how a Fox News reporter put it. Guy Benson said, “Do they want to be preached at about politics when they really just want to check out the latest fashions and these wonderful shoes you guys are all wearing?" Hey dude, next time ya wanna air out your exasperatingly outdated sexist stereotypes, let's not and say we didn't.
Goodell’s Gotta Go
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell just hired four women advisers—which is good news, given hardly any women have jobs in the NFL. It's also bad news because—he still has his job.
Miss Advocate
This week Kira Kazantsev was named Miss America. Her statements on the issue of domestic violence were impressive saying, 'I want people to stop asking, 'Why doesn't she just leave?'” I like where your bedazzled crowned head is at.
Timeout
A new bill in Missouri requires women seeking abortions have a 72 hour waiting period. Lawmakers think the time frame is "compassionate" and might help "change the women's mind." Time outs for grown women? I'd say you are better than that MO lawmakers, but you are so clearly not.
Hillary’s Hints
At the annual Harkin Steak Fry this past weekend, Hill talked about the presidency saying, “I am thinking about it.” Stop hinting already! I’d like to officially cut the tags off my Hillary 2016 t-shirt.
No(r)Way
To sum up new research: the U.S. is way behind other countries when it comes to family leave policies. Norway, on the other hand, requires paid leave for moms and puts equal responsibilities on parents. That’s so insanely reasonable, it just might work.
