WCF President/CEO Sam Bennett Announces Endorsed Candidates in New York, Arizona, and Virginia
(WASHINGTON, DC) – “Referencing the hostile political environment for women candidates, WCF President/CEO Siobhan “Sam” Bennett today announced the endorsement of three candidates running for local office in 2011.
“We are witnessing an unprecedented level of attacks on women’s health at the state level. Women candidates on the campaign trail, and even in the U.S. House of Representatives, continue to face a barrage of sexist attacks. It is absolutely clear: we need more strong women leaders, at every level of government and from both sides of the aisle, who support reproductive choices and options for all.
I’m honored to announce WCF’s early endorsement of candidates in New York, Virginia, and Arizona, including Brenda Sperduti, a pro-choice, Republican woman running for City Council in Phoenix. Brenda is precisely the kind of leader we need more of if we are going to continue to fight for all women. These endorsed local candidates are on the front lines of the war on women and WCF is proud to be supporting them so early in their races.”
The following 2011 local candidates have earned WCF’s endorsement:
Catherine Borgia: candidate for Westchester County Legislator (New York, 9th District)
Libby Garvey: candidate for State Senate (Virginia, 30th District)
Brenda Sperduti: candidate for Phoenix City Council (Arizona)
The Women’s Campaign Forum is the country’s only national, non-partisan organization dedicated to advancing the political participation of talented women leaders who support reproductive health choices and options at all levels of office, throughout the country, and regardless of political party.
